There are now some 510 Members, including some from neighbouring counties. If you live locally and also have an interest in gardens and garden history, the Trust would provide you with a lively and friendly forum for discussion, debate, conservation and occasionally campaigning.
Each year the Trust organizes lectures and visits within and outside Dorset for those members who wish to widen their knowledge of the history of gardens and designed landscapes, and members receive a regular newsletter. We have an active programme of recording the gardens, landscapes and garden buildings of importance in the County. We provide funding to support important garden restoration works and we promote awareness of gardening in schools.
Funding for the DGT’s conservation activities and the schools programme comes from members' subscriptions; the profits from a full year-round programme of visits for members only, and lectures for which members have priority in booking; and a major fund raising open event, the Garden Day, which has been a biennial summer fixture. Our most recent Garden Days were at Waterston Manor in 2012 and Chideock Manor in 2010.
