“Beauty and Tranquility combined” Country Life
“Twelve acres of beautiful and varied gardens set in some of the finest West Dorset countryside."
The Regency Manor House was built in 1811 by the Weld family who also built the Roman Catholic Church attached. The same family occupied the house until 1996 when it was bought by Howard and Deirdre Coates.
They inherited a wonderful setting, some fine old trees and heavy clay soil, but the once beautiful garden had been mainly given over to grass. Since then, the Coates have done their best to bring back the gardens to their former glory and, where records no longer existed, to create new gardens sympathetic to their surroundings.
