Tom and travelling companion were captured whilst plant hunting in the Panamanian jungle and held in prison for 9 months. Whilst there when given 1 day to live he decided to design his dream garden – a world garden. He placed plants on his plan in their respective countries of origin and gained the name of the ‘Plant Nut’  He wasn’t executed. He has since written 2 books and lives and works in his garden at Lullingstone Castle.

Thomas Guy Hart Dyke is an English horticulturist, author and plant hunter from the Hart Dyke family. He is the son and heir of Guy and Sarah Hart Dyke at the family seat of Lullingstone Castle, Eynsford, Kent. He is the designer of the World Garden of Plants located on the property for which he has won an award.
